Therapy for Teens
Let's face it: Teens today are under unprecedented stress in an increasingly complex world.
Student and parent schedules generally offer little time to check-in, reflect, and find relief from a huge number of choices that must be made daily. Teens are often pushed into a state of hyper-control, emotional withdrawal, or acting out as the only way to self-expression.
Psychotherapy with teens and young adults involves addressing individuals right where they are, emotionally and developmentally, to help them succeed with realizable objectives. Generally, as smaller, achievable goals are met, satisfaction and confidence grow. This helps youth take on greater challenges emotionally and academically.
A greater understanding of family, relationships, and a teen's own true values can help with challenges in the outside world.

- Reducing stress in a fast-moving world
- Understanding the uses and abuses of anger
- Avoidance as a useful but limited strategy
- Substance abuse
- Depression, Anxiety and the overcoming Trauma
- Bibliotherapy—reading books and telling stories
- School and academic difficulties
- Autism, Asperger’s, & ADHD as presenting strengths and challenges
- Conflicts with adults and the fundamental need for independence
- Bereavement--grief from unexpected loss, accident, or violent death of friend, family member, or a pet.
- Understanding changing roles in relationships.
I also work with teens from different cultural backgrounds, varying sexual orientations, and in several different languages.
